"HEART ATTACK CAUSES DEATH
George E. Broughton Dies at His Home After Long Illness; Funeral Thursday
George E. Broughton, 73, died last evening at 8:20 o'clock at his home, 930 Water street, after a four weeks' illness during which time he had been bedfast. Death was cause by heart trouble. He had been in failing health for several years.
Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the McCauley-Chapman funeral home with the Rev. Manson E. Miller, pastor of the Church of Christ, officiating; burial in Graceland cemetery.
Survived by Wife
Mr. Broughton leaves his wife, as sister, Mrs. Emogene Brewer, of this city, and three brothers, Isaac of Abilene, Kan.; John, of Lincoln, Ill.; and William, living near this city. There are also several nieces and nephews. A sister, Hattie, died ten years ago.
Mr. Broughton was born June 19, 1863 in Mount Pulaski, Ill., and grew to young manhood there. He came to Iowa with his parents, Perry and Katie Broughton, and they settled on a farm near Woolstock. His mother was a relative of the Frakes family who were pioneer residents of the Woolstock community.
He was married Oct. 30, 1918 to Mrs. Almira Hart, of this city.
Widely Known Here
For many years he was engaged in farming, but was forced to abandon this work on account of ill health. He moved to Webster City and entered the real estate business with Ed. Schultz. Later he was janitor at the South building for many years and after he had resigned from the work, he accepted a position as janitor at the Church of Christ. He was forced to resign there on account of heart trouble.
He was widely known in Webster City where he had many friends who will regret to know of his death." [GEB 05.]
